Jimbaran & Uluwatu
Rugged cliffs, hidden surf breaks, gravity defying temples, Jimbaran Bay and Uluwatu, two resorts on Bali's southern Bukit Peninsula, have seen the rise in developmen over that years, and now rivals the popular beaches of Kuta as a holiday destination.
Calling all lovers of fine beaches and fresh seafood. For you, no visit to Bali would be complete without a trip to wonderful Jimbaran Bay. Located south of the airport at the northern end of the Bukit Peninsula, the Bay is a long and lovely stretch of sandy beach with the old fishing village of Jimbaran at one end, its waters crammed with quaint fishing boats.
You will find Jimbaran's main attraction virtually running the whole length of the beach - approximately 50 beachfront seafood restaurants and warungs. The main attraction of these small, mostly family-run establishments, is that you get to choose your seafood and the cooking method, then enjoy its flavours as you watch the perfect sunset over the horizon ... usually to the tune of live music. Other highlights of Jimbaran are its wonderful scenic views and tropical and verdant surroundings, as well as some of the world's most exclusive resorts.
At the southern end of the Bukit Peninsula is Uluwatu, a surfer's dream come true and a place of renowned rugged beauty. A string of cafes and accommodation along the clifftop at Uluwatu provide some of the island's most spectacular views.
Perched high above the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean, one of Bali's 6 main spiritual temples is the Pura Luhur Uluwatu, or Uluwatu Temple. The temple's stunning location and views make it one of the most spectacular places on the island to view the sunset. Pura Luhur Uluwatu, is also home to the daily Kecak Fire Dance performance. Comprising 5 scenes from the Ramayana, the Kecak Fire Dance is a display of rhythmic human voices, colour, movement and fire.
