Bintan Island (Indonesia)
A Diverse Playground
Less than an hour away from Singapore (and twice its size) lies the northern coast of the beautiful Indonesian island of Bintan – the perfect extension to your Singapore holiday.
A dedicated sea-sports centre offers everything from kayaking and jet skiing to windsurfing, fishing, snorkelling and scuba diving in the gentle, marine-filled waters. Take a 10-minute sampan ride to Pulau Penyengat, with its 170-year-old mosque, home to a rare handwritten Koran and close to the royal tombs of previous sultans.
On land, golfers will be pleased with a range of courses designed by the likes of Jack Nicklaus. Alternatively, stroll nature trails and visit the wildlife sanctuary or the Agrotech Park.
- Eat at Kelong Restaurant: Stand on stilts over the sea, and smaple the offering of fine seafood.
- Visit Tanjung Pinang Village: Use local taxis to get around the town’s many sights, such as the Buddhist Kelenteng Senggarang Temple.
- Ride out to Pulau Penyengat: Once the hub of the Malay Empire, this is still an impressive place scattered with ruins and royal sites to explore.
