Napa Valley is one of the most popular destinations in Northern California, and is reminiscent of the painted hills of Tuscany, with breathtaking views at every turn. But beware, car hire here is a must, as public transport is non-existent, and the region is large. Sonoma Valley Airport services the Napa Valley, or you can drive from Los Angeles (660km) or San Francisco (80km)

Gourmet paradise

As well as offering an incredible array of wines, Napa is also a gourmet food-lover's delight. It is home to the Culinary Institute of America, some of the West Coast's finest restaurants, and an abundance of local farmers' markets. After a hard days' eating, treat yourself to a visit to one of the many day spas in the region that offer a wide range of treatments. from the hot springs at Calistoga, to a vocanic ash mud bath.

The Great Outdoors

The region offers some great parks for hiking and biking, along with hot-air ballooning, golf and tennis. Make sure you visit some of the many wineries in the region, or take the Napa Valley Wine Train for a different perspective.
